Popular crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe (Crypto Michael) was the first guest of our series where we came together with prominent names of the cryptocurrency world.

Poppe shared with us how he got involved in the cryptocurrency world, his Bitcoin and altcoin price expectations, and his thoughts on the DeFi ecosystem.

Let’s take a look our interview.

1. Hello! Firstly, can we learn how you first entered the crypto world? What is the first cryptocurrency you bought?

I’ve entered the cryptocurrency world during the spring of 2017. I knew about crypto earlier, but never had the idea that I could make money in it, until the altcoins started to pop left and right during that year. A friend of mine invited me to the markets on a terrace and immediately I started trading cryptocurrencies.

During that period, I’ve bought the ‘cheap’ ones as I thought they would be the fastest growers. One of them was Digibyte, which went 10x in the weeks after, but came down the same way as well.

2. When we look at emotionally, which cryptocurrency do you think will gain most?

It’s hard to say which cryptocurrency is going to increase the most and it’s also impossible to predict the right coin. Some cryptocurrencies like AAVE or Chainlink have been seeing tremendous years already and the bull market is just getting started.

My core focus relies on platforms, 2^nd layer solutions and oracles as that would be the fundamental basis for the ecosystems in general. Polkadot and Ethereum are a big foundation of my portfolio and will probably do well.

Bitcoin Price Prediction

We asked Poppe about the Bitcoin price expectation that the whole cryptocurrency world is curious about. The analyst stated his short and long term price prediction for Bitcoin.

3. What is your short and long term price expectation for Bitcoin?

Short term everything can happen. In the most natural cases, the Dollar is going to bounce up for a little bit, which would give the market some breath to relax. However, it’s speculation. The best case scenario would be a sideways range between $28,000-42,500 in which the market can generate strength for the next breakout to occur at a later point in the year. However, once it breaks above $42,500, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a very fast acceleration occur.

Regarding the long term expectation, I’m mostly in the camp of the people expecting the cycle to last towards 2023-2024. However, those cycles often exceed expectations of the people as well in which I’m anticipating a run towards $275,000-350,000 to be the peak high on the current cycle.

As we know, another important issue of the cryptocurrency world is fundamental and technical analysis. Many investors rely on these analyzes while invest in crypto. This is why we asked Crypto Michael what issues he paid attention to during his analysis.

4. What do you pay attention to most while doing your analysis?

I’m paying and building the most attention towards pure price action. I don’t see much reason to use many indicators as almost all indicators are build on price action. If you don’t understand price action, then you won’t be able to understand the indicators either.

Therefore, I’m using price action mainly, using on-chain analysis for sentiment data and common sense, which is pretty useful too.

Institutional investors are shown as the biggest reason for the serious increase in Bitcoin price lately. For this reason, the institutional investors issue has become one of the hot topics of recent times.

5. What do you think about institutional investors?

They are the foundation of the current cycle. This cycle is being surrounded by regulations and through those regulations there’s a bigger ability for institutional investors to step into the markets.

However, this will also mean that regulations will enable the negative side of the markets, which is the check whether projects are actually compliant to any financial regulations and standards. This is something we’re experiencing with the current XRP lawsuit as well.

6. Do you think Bitcoin will be able to change the financial system?

I don’t think Bitcoin will change the financial system, but it will give an option to opt-out of the current financial system. Changes are needed and the governments will try to bring their own solutions to the table.

However, with pure decentralization the people have the ability to jump towards a different system if they want.

That’s going to be the fight for the coming years and especially when the next crisis will occur, but stating which way it goes is quite difficult to project.

DeFi is Risky and Must Be Cautious

The DeFi ecosystem has been one of the most important issues that the crypto world has been talking about since the last summer.

7. What do you think about DeFi contributes to the cryptocurrency world?

This is a few cycles behind of Bitcoin, but can bring a big task to the decentralized system I’ve just mentioned.

Once DeFi starts to kick off, it’s a matter of people jumping over from the current system towards the new one (DeFi in this case). People should realize that our current financial system is build on trust. If more and more people start to lose that trust and jump over to other opportunities, the more fragile the current system becomes and the stronger the other system will be.

This is also the fact with developing on platforms. As the majority of the developers are on the Ethereum network, the likelihood of Ethereum succeeding heavily increased.

So, I think DeFi will play a big part in the new financial system, but it’s still very early and fragile and therefore extremely risky to invest in and should be treated with caution.

1. Merhaba! Öncelikle kripto para dünyasına nasıl girdiğinizi öğrenebilir miyiz? Satın aldığınız ilk kripto para birimi neydi?

Kripto para dünyasına 2017 ilkbaharında girdim. Kripto paralar hakkında daha önce bilgi sahibiydim ancak o yıl altcoin’ler patlamaya başlayana kadar bundan para kazanabileceğimi hiç düşünmemiştim. Bir arkadaşım beni piyasaya davet etti ve hemen işlem yapmaya başladım.

O dönemde, en hızlı büyüyenlerin onlar olacağını düşündüğüm için “ucuz” olanları satın aldım. Bunlardan biri, ilerleyen haftalarda 10 kat değer kazanan ancak aynı şekilde değer kaybeden Digibyte idi.

2. Olaya duygusal baktığınız zaman en çok hangi kripto para biriminin yükseleceğini düşünüyorsunuz?

En çok hangi kripto para biriminin yükseleceğini söylemek zor ve doğru kripto parayı tahmin etmek ise imkansız. AAVE veya Chainlink gibi bazı kripto para birimleri şimdiden çok iyi günler geçiriyor ve boğa piyasası henüz yeni başlıyor.

Odak noktam temelde, platformlara, 2. katman çözümlerine ve oracle’lara dayanıyor çünkü bu genel olarak ekosistemler için önemli bir temel oluşturuyor. Portföyümün büyük kısmında ise Polkadot ve Ethereum yer alıyor ve muhtemelen başarılı olacak.

Bitcoin Öngörüleri

Poppe’a herkesin merak ettiği Bitcoin fiyat beklentisi sorusunu yönelttik. Ünlü isim Bitcoin için kısa ve uzun vade öngörülerini açıkladı.

3. Bitcoin için kısa ve uzun vade öngörünüz nedir?

Kısa vadede her şey olabilir. Birçok durumda, dolar biraz yükselecek ve bu da piyasanın biraz nefes almasını sağlayacak. Ancak bu bir spekülasyon. 4. Analizlerinizi yaparken en çok neye dikkat ediyorsunuz?

Dikkatimi en çok fiyat hareketine veriyorum. Neredeyse tüm göstergeler fiyat hareketine dayandığından, çeşitli göstergeler kullanmak için fazla bir neden görmüyorum. Fiyat hareketini anlamazsanız, göstergeleri de anlayamazsınız.

Bu nedenle, ağırlıklı olarak fiyat hareketlerini, hassas veriler için zincir üstü analizlerini ve oldukça yararlı olduğunu düşündüğüm sağduyumu kullanıyorum.

Son zamanlarda Bitcoin fiyatının ciddi yükselişler yaşanmasına en büyük neden olarak kurumsal yatırımcılar gösteriliyor. Kurumsal yatırımcı konusu bu nedenle son zamanların güncel içeriklerinden birisi haline geldi.

5. Kurumsal yatırımcılar hakkında ne düşünüyorsunuz?

Kurumsal yatırımcılar mevcut döngünün temelini oluşturuyor. Döngünün etrafını ise regülasyonlar sarıyor ve bu regülasyonlar sayesinde kurumsal yatırımcıların piyasaya adım atma olasılığı yüksek olacak.

Bu aynı zamanda regülasyonların piyasayı olumsuz etkileyeceği anlamına da geliyor ki bu da projelerin fiilen herhangi bir mali düzenleme ve standarda uygun olup olmadığının kontrol edilmesi demek. Bu, mevcut XRP davasında da yaşadığımız bir şey.

6. Sizce Bitcoin finansal sistemi değiştirebilecek mi?

Bitcoin’in finansal sistemi değiştireceğini sanmıyorum, ancak insanlara mevcut finansal sistemden çıkma seçeneği sunacak. Değişiklikler gerekiyor ve hükümetler de bu konudaki çözüm önerilerini masaya yatıracak.

“DeFi Riskli ve Dikkatli Davranılması Gerekiyor”

Geçtiğimiz yazdan bu yana kripto para dünyasının konuştuğu en önemli konulardan birisi de DeFi ekosistemi oldu.

7. DeFi’nin kripto para dünyasına katkısı hakkında ne düşünüyorsunuz?

Bu, Bitcoin’in birkaç döngü gerisinde kalıyor. Ancak DeFi, az önce bahsettiğim merkeziyetsiz sisteme büyük bir rol biçebilir.

DeFi bir kez yükselmeye başladığında, insanların mevcut sistemden yenisine (bu durumda DeFi) geçmesi an meselesi olacak. İnsanlar, mevcut finansal sistemimizin güvene dayalı olduğunu anlamalı.
